Had a bad job interview? Do these things to still get your fashion job or internship

A week ago, during a consultation call with a student of the online course Break into the fashion industry , a girl asked me to help her because she thought she went wrong with a job interview because she was too nervous.

It was her favorite brand and she was super happy that she finally got an interview within a week after completing the course!

I advised her to do some things and I’m glad that they offered her a second interview and in the end, she got the job of her dreams!

Obviously each situation is different and depending on what you think you went wrong with during the job interview (being late, forgetting a fundamental detail, giving one or more wrong answers, being silent …) there are different actions to remedy, but I want to share one general guide on some things you can do if you think you had a bad job interview with a fashion company to still have the chance to get the fashion job or internship.

1.Did you forget to say something important?

Do you think you forgot to mention an important detail during the job interview that if they knew it would increase your chances of getting the job?
In the thank you email you send after the job interview, add a paragraph with the part you forgot to tell. Apologize that you were too nervous to have forgotted to mention about the experience X or of when you achieved that XYZ goal. I recommend to do this only if what you didn’t say is an experience or skill very relevant to the position you want to get and that is therefore good that they know that you have already had such an experience, that you have been able to achieve great results, etc.

2.Did you arrive late?

Among the don’ts of the job interview, surely there is that of not being late. But you know, life happens and sometimes we can’t avoid some things. If this is the case, apologize as soon as you arrive and apologize again in the post-interview thank you email saying that it was an exception for you and that you never happen to be late.

3.The next day

Whatever you thought was your mistake: arriving late or giving a wrong answer, go the next day again to the office with a personal thank you letter for each person you interviewed with reinforcing the reason why you are very interested in this job.

4. Ask for a second chance

In the thank you email, underline again how interested you are in the position and ask if you can meet again. Obviously you are not allowed to make mistakes in this second round.

5.In case of a wrong answer

If after your response the person’s reaction is not as you expected, it means that you said something that could jeopardize your interview. For all the questions for which you think you have given the wrong answer, my advice is to immediately write down those questions just after you leave the office and rethink your answer that you will send via email in the post-interview thank-you email.

6. Do you think you didn’t show much interest?

Here is an example of an email to send if you think that during your interview for any reason you were unable to convey your strong interest in the position

Dear Mr/Mrs XXX,

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me today. I enjoyed speaking with you, and after the interview I’m even more convinced that the position X would be a great match for my academic and professional background and that I’ll be an exceptional asset for the company.

However, I am not sure my interest and enthusiasm for the job came across in our interview. I’m not feeling at my best during these days and I don’t think I was able to express my aptitude for the position.

This is an exception not the rule, that’s why I wanted to assure you that due to the passion I have for this position and the company, I’ll work really hard and will accomplish exceptional results.

If you have the time, I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you again. Please let me know when you have time. Feel free to call me whenever you want at 1234536456 or email me at [email address]

Thank you again for the opportunity to interview with XYZ Company.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
